| Friday Harbor Irish Music Camp 2008 - Scholarship Award | |
We're very happy to be able to bring flute player Miray Campbell to the camp this year, as the recipient of our 2008 scholarship award. In addition to attending classes, she'll perform on the staff concert and will tutor flute students. Many thanks to those of you who contributed to our scholarship fund. Miray picked up her first tin whistle at age twelve, after being inspired by Loretto Reid, a master tin whistle and flute player from Co. Sligo Ireland. Loretto became a close friend and mentor to Miray and generously gave years of invaluable instruction in both the tin whistle and later on, the flute. At eighteen, Miray moved to Co. Mayo Ireland and became involved in the South Sligo session scene, playing regularly with the likes of Peter Horan and PJ Hernon. Miray now lives in her native British Columbia with her tenor-banjo playing partner Luke Hyatt She continues to make regular trips to Ireland to play, keeping her passion for Irish music alive and flourishing.
