HistoryThe Friday Harbor Irish Music Camp was founded in 2002 by Randal Bays and Dan Paulson, who are co-directors of the camp. Since 1993 when he was in Co. Clare at the Willie Clancy Summer School, Randal had been looking for the right place and the right partner to create an Irish Music camp on the west coast of the U.S. that would have a similar character to Willie Week. When Dan got interested and suggested Friday Harbor, the Friday Harbor Irish Music Camp was born.Randal's role has been selecting and hiring the teaching staff, organizing the teaching schedule and curriculum, directing the staff concert, publicity and outreach. Randal lives in Whidbey Island, Washington. Dan lives on San Juan Island near Friday Harbor and has generally directed the camp registration, housing, transportation, and all the many important details that make the camp a pleasant experience for all. |
