Camp Details2008 Class Schedule and Weekly Schedule Here
Participants should
arrive on Monday, March 3, after 1pm, to check in, have dinner and
attend an orientation session at 7:30 pm with teachers and staff. Note: Please do not arrive before 1pm. Breakfast will be from 8:30 to 9:30 each morning. There will be three 90 minute class sessions each day. Something new last year were the afternoon lectures/discussions with members of the teaching staff. We'll be doing these again and they will be held from 5 to 6pm, just before dinner. Speakers and subjects will be announced on Monday during orientation. On Wednesday evening we'll have sessions led by camp staff at a couple of nice bars in town. On Friday night
there will be a ceili with music by the staff, to be held this year at the Grange Hall in Friday Harbor and open to the public. Sessions will hopefully always
be a part of late night activities. On Saturday Night there will be a staff
concert (open to the public) in the San Juan Community Theatre. Tickets for
both the dance and the theatre concert are a part of tuition. If you wish
to purchase extra tickets for the concert, contact the San Juan Community Theatre at (360) 378-3210. The camp concludes
with a farewell breakfast and session on Sunday, March 9. Participants
should plan to leave the camp Sunday morning as the University needs to prepare for incoming students the next day.
Tuition for the camp, which includes room and board,
is $675.00 if you register and pay before January 1, 2008. After that tuition will be $690.00. We can only accept checks in US funds. A $100 deposit is required at the time of registration, which is nonrefundable unless the camp is cancelled or in cases of illness. See the registration page for more details. Tuition for the camp without room and board is $390.00. Individual class tickets will be available. There are several B&B's and hotels in nearby Friday Harbor, as well as a campsite that is about 5 miles from the camp. We limit the size of classes to about 18 students, and some classes have been closed to registration as early as January in past years, so please register as early as you can.The tuition DOES NOT include transportation costs to Friday Harbor. To get to Friday Harbor, you have to take the Washington State Ferry from Anacortes, which is about a one and a half to two hour drive from Seattle's SeaTac Airport. There is a shuttle bus that will take you from SeaTac airport to the Anacortes ferry terminal. Aprroximate roundtrip cost for the shuttle is $61.00. From Anacortes, it is a one and one- half hour ride on the ferry boat to Friday Harbor on San Juan Island. Roundtrip cost is approximately $9.00 for foot passengers, and substantially more if you bring a car, which you won't need on the island.Ferries run to Friday Harbor about 6 to 8 times per day. The ferries change to a spring schedule in March, so be sure and take that into account. If you are driving onto the ferry, be aware that lines can be long and it's a good idea to arrive at the terminal at least an hour early. Getting to the Site The camp shuttle bus meets all the arriving ferries on Monday afternoon. If you drive, you'll come off of the ferry and go up Spring Street. After a couple of blocks, make a right on to 2nd street. After four blocks another right onto Tucker Ave. which will turn into University Road. Follow the signs to Friday Harbor Labs.
